THE MONSTER TRILOGY (inspired by the work of Michael Matthews)
Directed by Nita Kersten, 10 music theater students reprise the work of the 80s / 90s theater sensation Michael Matthews. The young and flamboyant American Matthews conquered the Dutch theater field with a hyper interdisciplinary and performative theater form. He was known for his humor and a cheeky mash-up of different styles. He wrote The Monster Trilogy in the period when he suffered from AIDS and had to face his own fears. Director Nita Kersten considers it high time to rediscover his work with a young generation of makers. With the 'Dracula part' as spearhead, the performers dare to face their deepest fears. Where does fear come from and how can you face it? In the form of a theatrical concert, the actors take you on a magically realistic trip. The Dracula part tells us the story of a young pizza delivery boy with AIDS, who ends up in a house of vampires. Whereupon the vampires panic, because drinking the blood of someone with AIDS, isn't that dangerous?
