155 films on LUX Open Air

155 (one five five): Short Dance Films
155 (say: one five five) is a quirky collective of creative friends who bring dance, humour, music, and video together into explosive shows, dance movies and sketches. Throw Jackass, Maaskantje, and breakdance in the blender and you get 155. From a childlike curiosity and a raw, energetic style, 155 breaks down traditional boundaries of art and entertainment.
During Kunstnacht, four of 155's short dance films will be on display at Mariënburgplein: WEST, NACHTKANON, GAT and LEER.
GAT (hole)
Robbie lost 2 fingers due to fireworks. I ask Robbie how it feels to have no fingers. He says: not everything feels like something else feels. Explain to me what chocolate tastes like. I can say what it doesn't taste like: not branches, not water, not sand.
GAT is about movement, about bodies and about feeling. It's about what you don't see, but what is there. GAT is about what you can never name, but what is essential to make it exist.
LEER (leather)
In LEER we follow Hank. Hank has problems. Hank is not one of them. By riding his motorcycle, he can think clearly. Above 130 everything becomes black and white. During his nocturnal rides, he becomes so deeply entangled in his own thoughts that it is no longer always clear whether what he sees and hears is real. One thing Hank knows for sure: if you accelerate hard enough, no one will hear you cry in your helmet.
NACHTKANON (night cannon)
A man runs circles through the night. He is on his own. He is naked. This film is probably aesthetically sound, you think, this movie probably makes sense of something. The man keeps running through the night, his penis getting bigger and bigger. As the music swells further and further, it becomes more and more grotesque, you start to wonder if you know what this is talking about. An absurd short film about circles and starting over.
WEST
155 travels together with motorcycle friends from Utrecht (Netherlands) to Accra (Ghana, Africa).10,000 km of asphalt, thinking, making art and surviving. Get out of the rut in the Netherlands, motorcycling, gaining new influences and inspiration.
This short dance film is about the parallel between travelling for a long time, having many new impressions and not being able to store them well, not being able to interpret them all, not being able to process them, AND being able to express them in motion. The places and moments are memorised by moving in them. A harsh journey in which the realisation comes that we take everything for granted, that dance is a universal language and by riding unprepared with a camera, you instinctively make the most beautiful things as an artist.
