POST presents: Cinematic Sands van Kimiya Jokar

During Kunstnacht, POST presents the interactive installation Cinematic Sands by artist and designer Kimiya Jokar.
This self-built zoetrope — an early animation device — is brought to life through movement. Once activated by the viewer, spinning images reveal desert landscapes drawn from science fiction films and pop culture. A passionate sci-fi enthusiast, Jokar uses this work to explore how visual storytelling shapes collective imaginations of culture, power, and identity.
By combining archival footage with kinetic installations, she questions who is visible within the media landscape — and who is not. How do these images shape our perception of the past, present, and future? And once we realise our gaze is shaped, are we willing to reframe it?
Kimiya Jokar is an Iranian-Dutch artist and designer who uses collecting as a method to expose and restructure narratives. By archiving objects, images, and digital data, she investigates the layered nature of identity and the ways histories are constructed. Her practice moves between the personal and the collective, treating collecting not just as documentation, but as a way to uncover connections and generate new meaning.
