POST host Elky Rosa Gerritsen during Kunstnacht. She takes the visitor along in her research on ballast and presents her performance Palimpsest.

A duet between head and body.
Between hiding and embracing.
Between fantasy and reality.
And everything in between.

In a landscape of thoughts that reacts, deforms and shifts, a performer feels what mental ballast does to a person. Which layer floats above? Which ballast do you wear without ever choosing it?

Palimpsest is the third and final part of a multi-year ballast study by theater maker Elky Rosa Gerritsen. A performance about everything we carry with us and what is stuck in our body; visible or not.

The audience enters a figurative terrain of inner layers, from which a person, a city or a memory is built. Old traces never disappear completely; they express themselves under all that is new. That thought is at the heart of the performance.

Music, image, text and movement distort into an experience that makes it felt how mental ballast nests, pushes, wrings; and how we can carry, share or rewrite it. An intimate, poetic performance that invites you to look differently.

Experience the multitude of meanings of ballast during the Art Night at POST. Feel the heaviness, but also the lightness of sharing it. Look with different eyes at the weight you carry, and at the influence on the spaces and people around you.
