Behind the studio door: discover The Apartment

During Kunstnacht, enter Het Appartement, the open studio of Valkhof Museum. In a former apartment on the Van Schaeck Mathonsingel, young artists are given the space to explore, experiment and create. Not a closed workshop, but a place where the creative process is visible and visitors are welcome to watch.

During Kunstnacht, residents Marloes Molenaar and Ditte Teeuwen open their studio doors and take you along in their work. Marloes makes playful installations of everyday materials such as wire, feathers, tubes and found objects. Her work is constantly on the move and invites you to discover, experiment and sometimes even participate. Ditte investigates how craft techniques such as braids, knots and chair mats can take on new forms. With paper, plastic and homemade cords, she creates colourful objects and soft sculptures in which craftsmanship and imagination come together.

Kunstnacht is a special transitional moment for Het Appartement. During the evening, the three new, recently graduated ArtEZ artists will be introduced who will move into the residence in the coming period. Their names will be announced later.

Also look up when you stand in front of The Apartment. The upstairs neighbour of Het Appartement is also participating in the evening. Artist Manon Karssen presents Horses in the city, a stop motion projection made up of images of a wildlife camera recording a herd of horses. On the window, horses appear unexpectedly in the urban night. The film plays with the boundaries between city and nature, between observation and recognition, and shows how special images can arise when animals themselves determine the image.
