Hidde Loek x Hankyul Jeong

Sound artist Hidde Loek and visual artist Hankyul Jeong present an experimental multisensory installation that explores togetherness through the five basic tastes: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami.
Each taste profile is translated into a unique sonic environment, creating a space where sound, flavour, and visuals intertwine. Rather than treating food as something purely consumable, the project approaches taste as a social medium — a way of building intimacy and connection.
Hankyul’s artistic practice uses food as a tool for human connection and cultural exchange. Her recent work counters the individualism of modern Dutch society by creating spaces where people gather and share sensory experiences. Driven by a deep love for organic sound design, Loek expands these concepts through a blend of synthesis and field recordings, transforming flavour into experimental soundscapes.
Blending food research, sound art, and glass artwork in a walk-in installation, the project proposes a playful form of gezelligheid — inviting strangers to connect through curiosity and observance.
