Visit Galerie Bart for an Artist Talk with Artist Britte Koolen, who, alongside Lawrence James Bailey and Toni van Tiel, exhibits her work in our new exhibition 'Human Echo'.

About Britte Koolen

In a world dominated by speed, haste and the constant pursuit of more, Britte Koolen seeks just the opposite: the small and the subtle. In her work, Britte strives for balance by slowing down her creative process. She constantly asks herself questions: when is something in the right place? When should something be added or removed? When does there really be a balance?

She finds her inspiration in everyday life: in architecture, floor plans and sometimes just in a conversation. The manufacturing process is an essential part of her work, with attention to craftsmanship, choice of materials and the way each element is shaped. Through precision, simplification and abstraction, her works gradually develop into meaningful compositions.

This approach requires focus and care, but also space to notice the small details that are easily overlooked. She wants to encourage the viewer to take a good look and be surprised by these often overlooked details.
