Stoelendans - Jelle Mastenbroek

In Stoelendans, Jelle Mastenbroek has two converted standing-on-chairs take on the role of remote-controlled dancers in a theatrical installation. A dance that depicts a society that, despite diminishing means, tries to maintain the rhythm. A search for balance in an ageing society that is not on the sidelines, but plays the leading role.
With Stoelendans, Mastenbroek takes a first step in a new direction within his practice. Where he previously focussed mainly on interactive installations in which music and sound were central, the focus shifts to movement in this work. The project marks the beginning of an investigation into how kinetics and choreography can play an independent role within his work.
