Macroplastics — Vera Meulendijks

With the Macroplastics installation, Vera Meulendijks transforms seemingly small plastic residual forms from our contemporary world into monumental sculptures. The colorful objects together form a playful landscape in which visitors can sit, hang, lie down or get lost - a kind of playground for grown-ups.

The forms are inspired by microplastics: artificial fragments that circulate all around us. Enlarged, they get something cheerful and absurd, but underneath that playfulness there is also discomfort. The sculptures ask questions about our handling of plastic, manufacturability and the urge to control and shape everything.

The sculptures are playful and colorful, but at the same time raise questions about plastic pollution, consumption and the way we shape our environment.

After previous presentations at Best Kept Secret Festival and at Kapstad in Tilburg, the Macroplastics appear in the city during Kunstnacht in Nijmegen.
